September is Deaf Awareness Month!
September 1: History.
Deaf Awareness Month originated from the International Week of the Deaf, which was established by the World Federation of the Deaf (WFD – wfdeaf.org) in 1958 to highlight the culture, language, and rights of Deaf communities worldwide.
This observance, celebrated annually in September, was initially a single day before expanding into a full week and is now known as the International Week of Deaf People. The WFD, a global organization for the Deaf, founded in 1951, spearheaded these efforts to advocate for the Deaf community.
