Coming up on August 17
You guys, we’re pretty excited: for this month’s 3rd Tuesday Chat at Caffeinated Cow, there will be a special presentation.
Deaf Coffee is pleased to have Victoria Novoselski, part time staff interpreter for UC Health Southern Region joining us on August 17th. Victoria will briefly discuss ADA and how hospitals in general interpret the requirements, as well as current policies at UCHealth, as well as take some Q&A.
It is good to understand and know what your rights are when we need to communicate thru an interpreter in a medical setting. We have almost all of us experienced doctors and nurses asking “are we bringing an interpreter with us?” or making it sound like we don’t have much choice when offered less than.
How do we handle such situations? Know your rights, when / whether / how to politely accept or decline VRI vs in-the-room interpreter, handle overnight situations, when the patient is a hearing family member, and more. Please come if you have questions, or equally as important, to be aware.
Thank you to the Caffeinated Cow, The Independence Center, Deaf Coffee, ASLwithJulie, and the Memorial Hospital Interpreting Coordinator for facilating this 3rd Tuesday’s Deaf Coffee Chat topic.
