A Letter from DPAN:
Hello,
My name is Michaela Jitaru. I work for DPAN, The Deaf Professional Arts Network, a media production nonprofit based in Michigan. I’m reaching out to you because we are looking for more deaf and hard-of-hearing people to get involved with our ASL Data Collection projects.
What is an ASL Data Collection Project? We work with high-tech companies to collect high-quality ASL data for a really important goal: To improve the quality of life for Deaf and hard-of-hearing people in the United States.
For example, we’re working with Georgia Tech to develop an ASL Data Collection for their game called PopSign. This game is for parents with deaf children to learn ASL and play with their children. Here at DPAN, we work with deaf people all over the U.S. to improve the sign language database for this game.
If you’re interested, or you know deaf and hard-of-hearing people who are interested in getting involved, please share this link with them: https://dpan.tv/gigs/asl-data-collection/
We have a few simple requirements:
>> Must be 18 and older
>> Deaf or Hard of Hearing
>> Able to read English
>> Fluent in American Sign Language
>> Have internet and wi-fi at home
I’m looking forward to your thoughts, and happy to answer any questions!
Thank you,
