About
Deaf Awareness Week (DAW)
What is Deaf Awareness Week?
Deaf Awareness Week (DAW) is an informal name of International Week of the Deaf (IWDeaf). DAW is generally used in the USA.
The World Federation of the Deaf first celebrated the International Day of the Deaf in 1958. It was later changed to the International Week of the Deaf so people all over the world can celebrate it for a week instead of a day. It is celebrated every year on the last full week of September (Monday through Sunday).
When does Deaf Awareness Week take place?
While DAW usually takes place during the last full week of September, some places, such as here in Colorado Springs, may elect to celebrate it during a different date. However, it is always in September.
Where will Deaf Awareness Week be?
All over Colorado! Most likely in Colorado Springs.
